south wales institute of engineers educational trust home news and events trustee page last president 2006-2007 past presidents awards 1857-2007 lsw awards and downloads links contact the outline objectives of 1. to encourage and develop an interest and involvement in engineering and engineering related works in all members of society especially in the young. 2.to provide support to those in engineering education and training. 3. to undertake or promote other charitable work as approved by the trustees. scope and strategy 1. to provide support for students, undergraduates and others involved with recognised engineering courses, apprentices and equivalents, and to “graduates” in engineering careers in wales. 2. support may be financial support for studies, bursaries to encourage engagement, rewards for endeavour, papers competitions, and other prizes and awards that the trustees may, from time to time decide upon. 3. to encourage and support school age students to gain engineering understanding and appreciation, and encourage students towards rewarding careers in engineering and the built environment. 4. to continue, as the trustees deem appropriate, and at their discretion, support for engineering related good causes. 5. to participate in the engineering programmes in partnership with others, and to position the trust as wales focus of such programmes. 6. to promote the prestigious william menelaus annual lecture, as part of the trust’s activities, to promote engineering and careers within it, plus any additional promotional events the trustees may decide to achieve the same objective. 7. to continue, adapt and expand as appropriate, the david douglas and norman thomas awards. 8. to promote and support engineering education events within wales, both “own account” and in co-operation with others. 9. to maintain appropriate links and liaison with those bodies involved in engineering and education in wales, such as the various welsh government outlets, the royal academy of engineering, professional engineering institutions, groups, or their associated or successor bodies, at the trustees discretion, during the lifetime of swie(et)2007. 10. to promote equalities, specifically (but not exclusively) with respect to gender and ethnic representations in engineering and education at all levels. 11. to produce an annual public report about the previous year’s activities, to accompany the annual financial statement. 12. to seek regular meetings with the welsh government on engineering education and promotion progress, and with the royal academy of engineering, and others at the discretion of the trustees. © 2013 copyright 2013 back to top
